A sustainable society in which no one is left behind means the realization of a society in which human rights are truly respected. The Gakken Group believes that human rights are fundamental to its corporate activities as it strives to help all people live a fulfilling life. We have established the Gakken Group Charter of Human Rights to publicly state that we aim to realize a society that respects human rights.

Gakken Group Charter for the Human Rights

We, the Gakken Group (hereinafter referred to as the Group), have established the Group philosophy of "Providing inspiration, satisfaction, and peace of mind for today, and dreams and hopes for tomorrow, in the hope that all people will live enriched lives. This is the Group's philosophy. Needless to say, the foundation of our philosophy is the spirit of respect for human rights, and the Gakken Group regards it as its corporate social responsibility to work toward the realization of a society that respects human rights. The Gakken Group will conduct its activities based on the Gakken Group Charter of Human Rights (hereinafter referred to as "the Charter").

 

This Charter outlines the Group's approach to and responsibility for respecting human rights in order to realize the Group's philosophy.

Respect for International Human Rights Standards

The Group supports and respects the human rights described in the International Bill of Human Rights, the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and promotes responsible management in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The Group will comply with the laws and regulations of the countries and regions in which it operates. In cases where there is a conflict between internationally recognized human rights and the laws and regulations of the country or region in which we operate, we will seek ways to maximize respect for international human rights principles.

Scope of Application

This Charter applies to all officers and employees of the Group.
The Group expects its business partners to support this Charter and to work together to promote respect for human rights.

Practice of respect for human rights

The Gakken Group Social, Environmental and Human Rights Committee is the driving force behind the implementation of this Charter, and each company has established a Human Rights Enlightenment Promotion Committee. The President,Representative Director of Gakken Holdings, who chairs the Gakken Group Social, Environmental and Human Rights Committee, is responsible for the implementation of this Charter.
Under the above structure, the Group promotes awareness of the Charter both internally and externally.
The Group will continue to conduct human rights due diligence to identify any apparent or potential negative impacts on human rights arising from its business activities, and will work to prevent or mitigate such impacts. In cases where negative impacts on human rights have been caused or contributed to, we will work to remedy or correct them.
The Group will work to remedy any negative impact on human rights caused by business partners or other related parties. In addition, we recognize the need to collaborate with various stakeholders, including local communities and customers who use our services, regarding any apparent or potential negative impact on human rights, and we will promote dialogue and establish a system to consult and report any actions that negatively impact human rights.
We will disclose the progress of the Group's initiatives on our website and in our CSR Report.

Priority issues to be addressed

The Group will hold dialogues and consultations with stakeholders and outside experts to review priority human rights issues as appropriate.
