The Gakken Group was established in 1946, just after World War II, based on the belief of founder Hideto Furuoka: “There is nothing more important than education for post-war reconstruction.”

Since then, the Gakken Group has expanded its services to people of all ages — from infants to the elderly. The Group has provided grade-specific learning materials such as “Gakushu” (Learning) and “Kagaku” (Science) to households, entered the fields of school education and tutoring, developed learning content for adults, and operated elderly care facilities as well as daycare centers and after-school programs.

As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, the belief held by our founder continues to guide us with the same strength and clarity, and we are now accelerating our efforts on a global stage. The Gakken Group has set an aspiration to “Inspire Unlimited Potential,” aiming to deliver high value not only within Japan but to people around the world.

In November 2025, we announced our new medium term management plan, “Gakken 2027 Plan: Value UP,” which places a strong emphasis on profit growth and further enhancement of management efficiency, in addition to expanding our business scale over the next two years.

In the Education Domain, our theme is “Bringing our integrated strengths to the world: Gakken’s bold challenge to lead the future of education”

In the Healthcare and Nursing Domain, we focus on “Shaping the Future of Local Communities as a Leading Company Committed to Sustainable Growth and Giving Back”

We will continue to pursue growth opportunities in areas such as recurrent education and reskilling, and global expansion, while accelerating the reorganization of our business portfolio. Furthermore, we will enhance capital efficiency, maintain a sound financial build a stable financial foundation, and foster employee engagement as well as diversity and inclusion. Through these initiatives, we aim to drive Value UP across three dimensions — business, finance, and organization — as we work toward the realization of Gakken 2030 Vision.

The Gakken Group will continue to respond swiftly and appropriately to a rapidly changing business environment — including demographic shifts and inflation — while meeting the expectations of our customers, shareholders, and employees. We will further strengthen group management to create a positive and permanent impact on society through high value-added and sustainable businesses.
