Since its founding, the Gakken Group has been engaged in a wide array of publishing businesses starting with books and magazines centering on education, including the fields of entertainment, hobbies, practical application and culture.
Today the Gakken Group is engaged in various other businesses besides the publishing business, including a classroom/cram school business centered on "Gakken Classroom" supporting children's learning, a kindergarten/school business engaged in the production and sale of teaching materials and tools for kindergartens, nursery schools and schools, a stationery and intellectual toy business and a logistics business engaged in distribution and warehouse management.
For Gakken Accelerator 2015, a co-creation program was carried out with five external venture companies based on the keyword of "education," and the co-creation activities continue to this day.
The co-creation program for Gakken Accelerator 2016 is designed to bring innovation to the conventional publishing industry through mutual supplementation of limited resources by the Gakken Group, venture companies and small and medium-sized enterprises based on the keywords of "publishing/media," "books/magazines," "information content" and "education."
The Gakken Group will support the business development process of venture companies from seminars to brush up ideas and socials to business plan contests and acceleration programs for winning teams.
We will actively look into investing in and partnering with promising venture companies as well as mentoring by mentors from inside and outside the company, including the Gakken Group, and provision of office space.
Business Development Accelerator 01Booster is supporting the promotion of this program.
*This is not guaranteed.
The purpose of the business plan contest is to select entrepreneurial teams (including entrepreneurs, venture companies, small and medium-sized enterprises and sole proprietorships) that want to bring innovation to publishing/media, books/magazines, information content and educational business domains (peripheral domains also welcomed) through the Gakken Accelerator 2016 business co-creation program with the Gakken Group.
Through document screening (round one) and interviews (round two), we will select outstanding teams as finalists from among the entrepreneurial teams that enter the contest and will have them pitch their ideas at the contest event on Friday, December 11, 2015. We will then select the most outstanding team from among the pitching teams and present them with an award (final round). As shown below, along with prize money the team will be given the opportunity to participate in the Gakken Accelerator Program.
*Prize money is awarded with the condition that the team participates in the Gakken Accelerator Program.
*Teams not selected for the Award for Excellence may be invited to participate in the Gakken Accelerator Program as an Alliance Award.
*We will collect a wide range of business plans from business domains related to publishing/media, books/magazines, information content and education.
*We welcome businesses with grand visions of changing the world.
*Teams are not required to utilize the resources or network of or be familiar with the Gakken Group.
*IT utilization is not considered. Offline businesses also welcomed.
*Non-profit businesses are not eligible.
*The above are the keywords, but we also welcome peripheral domains so they are to be taken in their broadest meanings.
Business stage is not considered.
*The business may be in the idea stage or already launched. Inquire with us if you have questions concerning the business stage.
At the very least, the team representative must be able to commit to the business.
*Sole proprietorships are accepted, even if the company has not been established by the time of contest entry. (If you desire investment by the Gakken Group, you must establish a public company during the program period.)
*Either individuals or teams may apply, but we welcome teams in particular. We also encourage team forming during the socials.
*Age and nationality not considered. Students also eligible.
*You may still enter even if you are receiving funding from another company or are participating in a similar program organized by another company. However, please obtain the consent of the investment company or organizing company.
*Entrepreneurial teams from outside the Tokyo Metropolitan Area or outside of Japan may also participate.
